Temperature sensor (-225..1200°C)

The Temperature sensor ML45m measures temperatures in the calibrated range -225 .. 1225 °C (-373 .. 2237 °F). The sensor uses a thermocouple type K. The thermocouple consists of Chromel and Alumel wires that are butt-welded together at one end to form a measuring tip. The thermocouple wire is double insulated with glass braid and the thermocouple tip is exposed. The wire is about 65 cm long. For long measurements, the maximum temperature is limited to 870°C. The insulation is damaged when working above 482°C, but this does not normally detrimentally influence the operation of the thermocouple. The thermocouple may be damaged if it is used in the presence of sulphur, or under reducing conditions.

The wide temperature range of this sensor enables it to be used in a variety of experiments:
• Measurements of the temperature inside a Bunsen burner flame or a candle flame.
• Experimentally determine the melting point of copper, bismuth, or other solids.
• Measuring freezing and boiling points.
• Specific heat experiments.
• Measurement of breath frequency via temperature difference between inhaled and exhaled breath.
• Measuring rapid temperature change.

The Temperature sensor ML45m is a digital sensor (on-sensor digital conversion), which gives calibrated values of the measured quantity. This sensor can only be connected to the CMA MoLab interface and not to other CMA interfaces such as VinciLab, CoachLab II+ or EuroLab.

Technical specifications of the sensor are described in its User's guide.
